Celebration of the Life of David Zackon
May 15, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
We were shocked and saddened by the sudden death of David Zackon, our loyal member, leader and friend, who passed away March 13 at Massachusetts General Hospital from complications of flu and pneumonia. A lifelong peace supporter, David was the convener of our Palestine/Israel working group and an active member of our Legislative/Political committee. He also participated in several allied organizations, including the North Shore Coalition for Peace and Justice, the New England Network for Justice in Palestine, and Jewish Voice for Peace. We miss him greatly.
On May 15 2016 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, a memorial service in memory and celebration of the life of David Zackon will be held at the Shirley-Eustis House in Roxbury. The venue is a lovely historic home that David very much liked and was suggested to us by some of his dearest friends. David’s friends and colleagues and their friends too—from near, not-so-near, and also from afar for some—can get together in a companionable setting, with light food and drink, to share memories, feelings, stories, who knows what.
To reach the Shirley-Eustis House, take the 14 bus from JFK/UMass MBTA station. Or contact the MAPA office to arrange a ride or carpool (firstname.lastname@example.org, 617-354-2169)
Massoudeh Edmond, an activist in Arlington who is a member of MAPA’s P/I working group, has collected the messages of remembrance about David Zackon into a book. It will be shared at his memorial event and there is a copy at the office.
Donations in David’s memory will be used to create a David Zackon Fellowship for Justice in Palestine-Israel, supporting the work of interns and/or young organizers who are continuing David’s work to bring a just Palestine-Israel policy into the legislative and political arena. Mail a check to Massachusetts Peace Action Education Fund, 11 Garden St., Cambridge, MA 02138 and write “David Zackon Fellowship” on the memo line. Or donate online using the link. All donations are tax-deductible.
