Congress Watch Organizing Meeting
June 15 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Pressuring Mass. Reps. to Step Up for Peace
Mass. Peace Action members and our allies are working to pressure Congress to support bills on nuclear war, Middle East wars, Korea, Venezuela, Palestine, military spending, and more. Our Federal Legislative Agenda is here.
In a deep blue state, it is critical that Massachusetts members of Congress step forward to support peace bills. Yet, we have a lot of work to do to get our legislators to sign onto our bills. A quick summary of the co-sponsorship status is shown below; a printable copy is available here. Out of the 9 priority bills we support and one that we oppose, Jim McGovern has cosponsored 7; Sen. Warren 4; Sen. Markey 5, but also cosponsors the bill we oppose; and no one else in the delegation has sponsored more than two. (Not shown are the Yemen war powers bill, which our entire delegation voted for, and the Green New Deal, which all but Rep. Neal are cosponsoring.)

To raise the profile of our bills in Congress, we need a lead person for each issue, for each district–someone who will commit to leading, or co-leading, the charge to get Rep. X to cosponsor bill Y. What issue (or bill) will you focus on?
For more information, please see our detailed Federal Legislative Agenda.
Come together on June 15 to discuss the bills — and get organized to plan delegations to Congressional offices. We’ll also review our state bills.
Agenda:
1:00 – 2:00 Review Congressional Bills and Issues
2:00 – 3:00 Breakout groups by congressional district
3:00 – 4:00 Review State bills (Commonwealth Peace and Justice Agenda), what to expect and how to prepare for hearings
Please RSVP here to let us know you are coming!
