Join us for the People’s Inauguration!

This will be a be gathering in downtown Boston in response to the inauguration in DC. We will take action together and “swear in” to each other, making a commitment to one another to stand up against injustice and build an alternative world together. This will be a protest against the incoming administration and a celebration of our communities and the vibrant alternatives we have to offer.

Activities and actions will start at 3:30pm at Dewey Square followed by a march to the Boston Common. At 5pm there will be the People’s Inauguration swearing-in ceremony – a celebration that will include music, art and inspiration.

This is a non-violent action and a family-friendly, all ages event.

This event is being organized by a broad-based coalition of community organizations, people of color, immigrants, women, the LGBTQ community and others who are directly impacted by Trump and Right wing policies.

Our guiding principles are:
1. Whatever we do together (work), short-term + long-term should be led by + lift up the voices & leadership of people most impacted/affected by Trump/right/white supremacist policies (people of color, LGBTQ communities, workers- particularly those in struggle, immigrants, women, indigenous communities, people with disabilities, incarcerated/formerly incarcerated communities, Muslims)

2. Recognize importance of song/art/culture and support and lift up the leadership of young people. Make the revolution irresistible – this has to be fun!

3. Our actions should expose corporations/millionaires (at all levels-state, local, national) who will profit from trump-inspired policies

4. Our actions should seek to have a broad impact and reach AND be grounded and rooted in communities – we will have to find the happy medium between the two.

5. Whatever we do builds a foundation for future work (we don’t know what that means or looks like), ex: sanctuary cities/hate-free zones (if we are in power, what does our city look like); moving toward something popular, irresistible that all movements can get behind.

6. Our actions together should clearly and strongly reject white supremacy and patriarchy, prioritize workers in the struggle and lift up the belief in an economy and society for people over profit.

7. Our actions and work should center a commitment to multilingualism AND value and respect the many ways that our communities resist, organize and build visionary movements.

8. Ground work in decolonization both domestically and globally to address impact of practices from U.S. on global communities.
